A family
Around the splendid 17th century Chateau, the vineyards stretch out across the gentle slopes of a unique Mediterranean geographical formation (post glacial terraces from the villafranchienne period). The terroir, benefiting from a superb climate, is planted with grape varieties perfectly adapted to it. This helps give these wines an elegance comparable to only the finest of Languedoc. With over a century's solid reputation behind it, Condamine Bertrand has recently added the dynamism of Bruno Andreu, who looks after the commercial side of the business. ![]() A domaine so full of history Within this 70 hectare vineyard, all work that is carried out is done with a pure objective of quality, with the preservation of the character of the terroir being the most important element. The terroir ![]() Villafranchien soil, situated at the foothills of the Cevennes mountains with an. average altitude of 90 metres and gentles south (i.e. sea) facing slopes. Erosion has played an important role in this specific area, and as a result the ground is full of large round stones which keep the soil very warm, favourable to the maturation of the ancient grape varieties and guardian of their authenticity. The varieties ![]() For a long time, it has been important to us to promote the very best grape varieties in France, grown on an equally exceptional terroir. Without giving in to the temptation of easy profit, in our vineyards Syrah, Mourvedre, Clairette, Roussane and Merlot ( 17 varieties in total) all prosper. Indeed, it was our vigneron's pride that encouraged us to pioneer what was considered revolutionary until quite recently, the practice of low yields ( 40 hectoliters/ hectare). The Art of Winemaking ![]() At Condamine Bertrand, the technology of today and the tradition of yesteryears are combined ti give birth to new wines respectful of their noble origin. In the vineyard, where cultivation is well thought out and respectful of the soil, as in the cellar, where vinification and maturation are done with care, every means possible is used to bring out the full typicity of each grape variety and the numerous diffrent terroirs that is adapted to. Hand and mechanical harvesting, hard work of a ream, and the passion of a family transform transform vinification cellar into a haven of flavour and discovery. The vinification are done carefully with total control of temperature and densities, bringing a magical touch to grapes harvested at their optimum maturity. |
